On the 19th of April Marsa celebrated the 100th year anniversary from the consegraton of its Parish Church to the Holy Trinity. The day a hundred years back was a Thursday and the Bishop was His Holiness Mauro Caruana. At the end of the ceremony Cavalier Lorenzo Balbi was declared by the Bishop as the Only Patron of the Marsa Church
Fid-19 t' April ta' din is-sena iċċelebrajna l-anniversarju tal-100 sena mill-konsagrazzjoni tal-Knisja tat-Trinita Qaddisa.
Kien il-Ħamis 19 t'April meta l-Isqof ta' dak iz-zmien Mauro Caruana ikkonsagra it-Tempju lit-Trinita' Qaddisa. Fl-aħħar taċ-ċeremonja l-Arċisqof ħatar lill-Kavallier Lorenzo Balbi bħala l-Patrun ewlieni tal-Knisja tal-Marsa.
This year was also the 50th Anniversary of the Maria Regina Parish Church. This was celebrated on the 1st February. The Church was built in 1961 and became a Parish in 1967 to cater for the needs of the people living on this side of Marsa. Today the parish is well established - there are various cultural societies as well as people who are highly dedicated to work for the benefit of this parish.
Din is-sena fl-1 ta' Frar iċċelebrajna l-anniversarju tal-50 sena mill-konsagrazzjoni tal-Knisja tal-Madonna tad-Dmugħ. Il-Knisja nbniet fl-1961 u fl-1967 saret parroċċa, biex tieħu ħsieb in-nies tan-naħa ta' fuq tal-Marsa. Illum il-paroċċa stabbilita sew. Insibu diversi għaqdiet kulturali u nies dedikati għall-lokal.
This was also the long awaited year to see the closure of the Marsa Power Station - the monster that served all of Malta yet was the sorrow of the people of Marsa. The issue was not only pollution and health implications, but the overall cultural heritage that was so brutally destroyed. Below the buildings of the Power Station lie buried historical sites and artifacts of the utmost importance - Punic graves and Roman ruins, as well as the remains of the Villa of G.F. Abela and the remains of Fortresses from different eras. Just imagine what an Inlet Port right within walking distance from the World Renowned Valletta Grand Harbour, with all this historical riches would mean for tourism in Malta.
Marsa has been the cradle of industrialization throughout the years - and we are proud of this as well, and we do not want to in hinder the economy in any way. However it is now the time to set things right - move the industrial into the relative areas and restore the Port Area to what it should be. In this regard we all eagerly await the start of the regeneration of this area.
Din is-sena wkoll rajna l-għeluq tal-Power Station. Vera li il-Power Station tal-Marsa kienet qed taqdi lil Malta kollha, imma ftit nies taw każ kemm sofrew in-nies tal-Marsa, mhux biss minħabba it-tniġġiż li tant għamlilna ħsara, imma wkoll mill-punt kulturali. Il-progress ġie qabel kollox, u mal-bini tagħha ndifnu Katakombi sħaħ, u siti storiċi Puniċi u Rumani, il-fdalijiet tal-Villa ta' G. F. Abela, u Fortizzi ta' diversi gwerer. Ħadd ma qatt ħaseb x'ikun ifisser sit bħal dan erbgħa passi 'l bogħod mill-Port il-Kbir għat-turiżmu f'Malta. Lill-Marsa ħadulha ħafna, u wasal iż-żmien li jerġa jitradd lura id-dinjita li din il-belt tant jistħoqilha.
Il-Marsa hi il-benniena tal-progress ta' pajjiżna - għandha storja twila u interessanti. Il-ħolma tagħna hi li din l-istorja ma tintilifx u l-bqija ta' Malta tirrikonoxxi dan, mhux tibqa tħares lejn il-Marsa bħala post industrijali fejn kollox jgħaddi, ħażin kemm hu ħażin għall-ambjent tagħna. L-industrija għandha tkun fl-inħawi addattati għaliha, waqt li in-naħat tal-Port jiġu restawrati kif jixraq. Nittamaw li r-riġenerazzjoni tal-Port ikun il-bidu ta' dan il progress.
