The Tram started operating on the 23rd of February 1905. The corporation was Malta Tramways while the owners were Macartney, Mc Elroy and Co. Ltd. The route was through Marsa near the Holy Trinity Church en route to Hamrun. The power supply was from the Marsa Power Station.

By 1890 - 1900s Gas lighting around the Harbour required a large work force to maintain it and also to meet the demand for the transportation of large quantities of coal. In 1904 Coal Barges started operating at the Marsa Menqa - the owners were the Attard family headed by the foremost entrepreneur of the time Spiridione Attard. The demand for a larger work force was so urgent that all the Attard brothers started building dwellings from the periphery of Villa Violette to the Marsa Menqa to provide housing for the workers who relocated to Marsa with their families.
Marsa started to establish itself as a then modern town - the population grew and the need for a new Paris Church emerged. 1903 saw the first stone for the Holy Trinity Church - a project was completely funded by Cavalier Lorenzo Balbi and his wife. The Church was consecrated to the Holy Trinity on the 19th of April 1917.

Il-popolazzjoni tal-Marsa bdiet tikber tant li nħasset il-ħtieġa li tinbena Knisja. Madwar l-1903 ġie deciż is-sit u tqiegħdet l-ewwel ġebla. Il-finanzjament kollu ta' din il-Knisja ingħata mill-Kavallier Lorenzo u is-Sinjura Maria Carmela Balbi. Il Knisja ġiet ikkonsagrata fid-19 t'April 1917.
